Abstract

In this research project, a measuring system for discard maturity determination of fiber ropes is developed. The comparison of various measuring methods led to a measuring system based on strain measurement by electrical signal time-of-flight measurement. Electrical conductors and measuring nodes with electronics are inserted into the rope core. The design of the measuring system and the production of a prototype are described. First test measurements with this prototype demonstrate the function of the individual components of the measuring system and their interaction and show the successful determination of strain and temperature.
