Abstract

In recent years the increasing requirements for energy-efficient and resource-saving operation of conveyor machines and their components have led to growing innovations in new materials, technologies and pro-cesses. This leads to a rethink of established steel wire ropes to high-performance fibre ropes, especially when operating rope drives. The TU Chemnitz re-search on the development of new test methods for es-timating the service life and condition of use of run-ning, high-strength fibre ropes based on the electrical resistance measurement. For this electrically conduc-tive wires are integrated in an aramid rope in order to be able to determine discard criteria of the rope by measuring the change in electrical resistance over the service life time of the rope. With increasing life time of the ropes, the wires inside the rope break and go into new contacts (only uninsulated wires), this leads to an increase in electrical resistance.
