Increasing environmental awareness in society and politics as well as the long-awaited but as yet unheard of increase in the price of energy have brought energy consumption in industrial trucks more into focus in recent years. In numerous research projects at the chair of MTL, different aspects of energy consumption of industrial trucks have therefore been investigated. It was found that the curve resistance has a significant influence on the energy consumption of these vehicles in addition to the rolling resistance. In this paper, analytical calculations and multibody simulations are used to show under which conditions the curve resistance is relevant for the average energy consumption of a battery electric industrial truck. From these investigations it is possible to derive not only the optimum operating behaviour for reducing the driving resistance but also findings for the future development of industrial truck tyres.Downloads
