Abstract

Simulation is an established and indispensable supporting tool in industrial logistics planning. Increasing automation and dynamization of costumer processes results in increasing complexity of these systems and additional needs for simulation studies. In contrast to this, simulation is highly time consuming and therefore expensive. As a result, fewer systems than reasonable are simulated during the planning phase. Therefore, the aim of this work is to derive requirements for material flow simulation allowing its improvement and increasing the number of performed simulation studies in the industrial environment. For this purpose, weaknesses and possible improvements of currently used simulation methods and tools were collected and requirements for future developments were derived. Based on this, a new simulation approach was developed and implemented in a software prototype. A first comparison with established tools shows a reduction in the simulation effort when using the software prototype.
