Plastic slide chain conveyors are used in intralogistical transport and have a large influence on greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce environmental damage, it is necessary to know where the origin of those degradations are. For that reason, a systematic analysis of slat-band chain conveyors are conducted. These conveyors are often exploited in the beverage industry. Within the project, which is supported by the Röchling Foundation, the entire life cycle i. e. the production phase, use phase and disposal phase are included. The life cycle assessment of the conveyors resulting will serve as the basis for determining ecologically relevant influence parameters. It is shown here how e. g. materials, design of the chain, conveyor layout or stress parameters affect the ecological footprint and where the potential for improvement lies. In addition, an outlook of the recovery of engineering plastics is given. The focus here is the recycling of plastic slide chains.Downloads
