Abstract

Pallet cages are used in many producing companies for storing and supplying materials and can be easily stacked. Nowadays this storage using self-supporting stacks is mainly done by using manual forklifts, which need wide lanes. This type of block storage is time-consuming and needs large areas, which can hardly be supplied and kept free for small and medium-sized companies. At the same time there is at least one over-head crane in almost every production or assembly hall. This overhead crane is often used only for a few transports per day and stands still the rest of the day. Therefore, in this contribution a system for a flexible storage of pallet cages is presented. Using this system, it is possible to fully-automated use overhead cranes to build stacks of pallet cages reproducible and safely. The goal is to integrate this innovative system into a given overhead crane without making changes to the construction. The process flow and the components of the system will be presented in this contribution.
