Abstract

Modern, high-strength fibre ropes are used more and more in mechanical handling applications. This is mainly due to the very low specific mass and, at the same time, to very high strengths. This allows the users to reach large production depths as well as the realization of highly dynamic processes. The state of research on high-strength fiber ropes is relatively low compared to classical steel ropes. Additionally the wear and durability of running fiber ropes under high-dynamic load is completely unexplored. This safety-related lack was recognized at the Institute for Materials Handling and Logistics and was fundamentally elucidated within the scope of a research project, financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
