Abstract

For high-performance automated storage/retrieval unit load systems shuttle systems are used in recent years with increasing frequency. This type of storing system reaches maximum throughput. Until recently, no analytical approach to calculating the handling capacity of shuttle systems was available. This shortcoming could be eliminated by the IKTL TU Vienna. In several publications methods for calculating the performance of shuttle systems have been described. This publication is intended specifically to calculating the handling performance of single-depth storage taking into ac-count the distribution function of arriving and service times are discussed: The previous releases of IKTL all based on a M|M|1|K model because it can be calculated with relatively simple equations. For the first time shuttle systems will be described with the more exact M|G|1|K model and compared with the M|M|1|K model. Using these queuing models an optimal geometry of the rack (L x H) - in terms of throughput - can be calculated.
