The future challenges of the process industry cannot be faced by the current rigid production and logistics systems, which results in the need for a modular, transformable production and logistics. In order to take advantage of such systems, a quick and low-effort (re) configuration is required. Therefore, standardized interfaces and intelligent modules are necessary to be inserted in the production and logistics system according to the plug & produce principle. Due to previous research projects (e.g. F³ Factory) it could be demonstrated that a production in the process industry is feasible in modular standard containers. The following article describes the current results and challenges in an effort to advance the logistics research and process engineering for developing intelligent standard containers for modular production in process industries. Using intelligent logistics and production modules it is shown how a transfer of knowledge gained from the development of cyber-physical logistics systems to Process Industry is possible.Downloads
