An efficient design of assembly feeding processes is an essential prerequisite to ensure high availability of components in assembly systems. Adequate assembly feeding strategies should be selected according to requirements of the feeding process. The assembly process predominantly determines performance requirements of material feeding strategies. Assembly feeding strategies have to match to performance requirements which may be formulated qualitatively or quantita-tively. Solely considering quantitative criteria does not ensure adequate decisions as quantitative data is usually not reliable in early planning phases, besides, generating quantitative data usually needs a lot of time and is accompanied by high cost. Furthermore, in conventional methods used for the selection of assembly feeding strategies the non-fulfillment of an assessment criterion is often concealed by good performance of other criteria (time vs. quality). To select assembly feeding strategies considering qualitative and quantitative requirements fuzzy axiomatic design seems to be an appropriate approach. This method ensures a comparison of requirements in terms of assembly feeding processes and suitability of assembly feeding strategies.Downloads
