Abstract

Crane construction is currently dominated by metallic structures, whereas engineered wood products are rarely used despite their ecological advantages. At the same time, modern laminated veneer lumber composites (WVC) offer new possibilities regarding mechanical performance and lightweight design. The objective is to experimentally investigate the potential application of engineered wood products in crane girders and to evaluate the transferability of structural scaling approaches using similarity theory. The focus lies on workshop-scale demonstrators and their technical and economic assessment.
