Abstract

The article describes the methodical development of a sorting system for the shipment type polybag. The need for this arises from challenges such as higher energy efficiency with a simultaneous increase in performance, but above all from the sharp increase in the proportion of items with physical properties that have not yet been adequately described - also known as polybags. State-of-the-art systems are currently only able to do justice to these extraordinary boundaries to a limited extent. The article shows various models for simulating the physical behavior of polybags, such as limp behavior using multibody simulation or flow simulations (CFD), and integrates these directly into the development process. The design process focuses on a virtual development approach (CAE) through various methods, with subsequent validation of the approaches on a functional prototype. This results in the concept study of the new sorting system especially for polybags.
