Abstract

High strength fiber ropes for cranes have many different properties. Some of these can be used to monitor the condition of the rope. Methods that allow measuring these properties are rated according to their technical and economical suitability for condition monitoring. Some of the best-suited methods are combined to a new measurement system that consists of two electrical conductors with uniformly distributed measurement points in the rope. It is able to capture rope properties at each of the resulting rope sections. The detectable properties, their measurement and a potential implementation of the system is described.
