Abstract

The use of steel wire ropes in traction rope drives offers a very high level of operating safety due to the high level of knowledge about the lifetime of running ropes. However, steel wire ropes can no longer be used economically at heights of more than 500 meters. Alternative materials are therefore being tested for use in traction sheave applications.
