Abstract

The article deals with the assessment of the performance of continuous conveyors as well as their possibilities of improvement. Using the example of a timing belt conveyor, the effects of the improvement are discussed on the basis of the dimensioning criteria for tooth carrying capacity and contact temperature increase. In order to compensate for these with constant safety factors, the coefficient of friction between the timing belt and the sliding rail should be as low as possible and constant over the service life of the system. For this purpose, an option is presented, which is essentially based on the replacement of the usual sliding by rolling friction. The potential differences of these two variants were determined on the basis of the coefficient of friction measured in long-term tests. The description of a new storage system using the alternative support of the timing belt and a comparison with existing systems round off the contribution.
