Abstract

Due to the increasing importance of individualised production processes, assembly processes are subject of rapid change. The German automotive industry, for instance, perceived variations in volume of about 50 percent between 1991 and 2007. In order to cope with such challenges, production systems require adequate changeability. Changeability characterises the ability of a system to anticipate internal as well as external changes, to take preventive measures and to react to unforeseen or random events, respectively. To guarantee the required changeability of a production system as well of its corresponding logistics subsystems it appears necessary to regularly evaluate required change measures. For this purpose, the Chair of Production Organisation and Logistics developed an approach for adaptive line feeding which is geared to adjust line feeding processes based on perceived or anticipated changes within production systems.
