The mass of a counterbalanced forklift truck affects the energy consumption significantly due to the rolling resistance. A lower mass of the truck reduces energy consumption but leads to a poorer dynamic stability. In order to investigate and evaluate the behavior of the vehicle during dynamic driving maneuvers, numerical simulations are used. Measurements of a forklift were used to estimate the vehicle dynamics and validate a multibody simulation. This model is used as a basis for forklift concepts with reduced overall mass. These concepts are presented and evaluated in this article.Downloads
