Plastic sheaves are lighter than steel or cast iron sheaves, which is advantageous especially for boom cranes in their construction and handling characteristics. The service life of wire ropes on metal sheaves is well determined. However, the determination on plastic sheaves is only incorrectly possible. In an AiF-ZIM research project radiation crosslinked and natural plastic sheaves were examined for changes in performance characteristics and compared with the result when running over steel sheaves.Downloads
