Abstract

In this article a detailed model for the power consumption of a storage and retrieval machine is presented. The model is validated by experiments. Aspects of the measurement process and evaluation are discussed. It is shown how to calculate the energy need of a storage and retrieval machine based on the proposed model for single and double cycles. In addition, four warehouse operating strategies to reduce the energy need of storage and retrieval vehicles are presented and compared to existing strategies regarding their impact on the average throughput and the average energy need per hour.
