Abstract

Due to steadily changing performance requirements of volatile markets a flexibilization of inhouse material flow becomes a necessity. Classical conveyor systems like centrally controlled steady conveyor systems reach their functional limits. In addition, methods of planning of steady material flow systems encounter unsolveable tasks. The answers to these questions offered cellular transport systems. The Cellular Transport Vehicle “Multishuttle Move” shall replace steady conveyor systems and manual transports, where a high degree of flexibility and changeablity is demanded, planning reliability is not guaranteed or automation is not applicable because of lacking flexibility. This paper presents an introduction to these systems and points out their features.
