Abstract

Biogas plants are both sinks and sources of material and energy flows. This also applies to some of their substrate suppliers. Transport and storage of substrates and byproducts are causing a large part of the operating costs. Therefore, a mixed linear location planning model is presented aiming to reduce these costs to a minimum. Taking into account the supply and demand constraints, the optimum number of facilities will be calculated, their types will be picked and their locations will be set, thus improving long-term profitability.
